Monitoring period: January 1, 2026 – March 31, 2026
Scope of analysis: Harvesting and domestic sales of timber on the internal market.
During the reporting period, Ukraine’s forestry sector demonstrated high activity, with a tendency for harvesting volumes to exceed actual sales in certain timber categories.
1. Overall market indicators
The total volume of harvested timber in Ukraine during the first three months of 2026 reached 3,305,882 m³. At the same time, sales amounted to 2,980,317 m³, indicating a market absorption level of approximately 90% of harvested volumes.
Harvesting structure by product category (m³):
| Category | Harvested | Sold |
|---|---|---|
| Roundwood | 1,522,047 | 1,212,365 |
| Industrial fuelwood | 915,413 | 952,196 |
| Non-industrial fuelwood | 845,147 | 813,456 |
| Long-length timber | 19,174 | – |
Notable insight: Sales of industrial fuelwood (952.2 thousand m³) exceeded harvesting volumes for the same period (915.4 thousand m³), indicating active liquidation of inventories accumulated in previous periods.
2. Regional harvesting leaders
The largest timber volumes are concentrated in northern and western regions of Ukraine:
- Zhytomyr region: Absolute leader with 497,382 m³, accounting for nearly 15% of the national total.
- Rivne region: Second place — 360,788 m³.
- Volyn region: Third place — 319,091 m³.
- Chernihiv region: Strong performer with 298,315 m³.
3. Activity of major forest users (State Forests of Ukraine branches)
Analysis by regional branches of SE “Forests of Ukraine” shows resource concentration in the following forest districts:
| Branch (Forest District) | Region | Harvested (m³) |
|---|---|---|
| Ovruch | Zhytomyr | 64,669 |
| Zviahel | Zhytomyr | 62,760 |
| Manevychi | Volyn | 58,132 |
| Chernihiv | Chernihiv | 58,110 |
| Korosten | Zhytomyr | 58,798 |
4. Specific product segments
- Industrial fuelwood: Zhytomyr region is the largest supplier (194,639 m³ harvested).
- Roundwood: Volyn region demonstrates the highest volumes of commercial timber — 180,093 m³.
- Brushwood: A minor segment, with 4,101 m³ harvested, of which nearly one-third (1,330 m³) comes from Kyiv region.
Conclusions for business
- Supply stability: The market shows steady harvesting dynamics, particularly in the roundwood segment.
- Energy demand: High sales of industrial fuelwood indicate stable demand from the energy sector and processing industries.
- Logistics focus: The main centers of business activity remain the Capital and Polissia forest offices.
The material is based on official monitoring data of domestic consumption of unprocessed timber (March 2026).
